Since 1997

I’ve been a timeshare owner since 1988. When I purchased my first timeshare, my friends were asking me - What have you done? What is a timeshare? Are you crazy? That sent up red flags, and I realized I’d better do my homework.

I  did my homework for the next ten years, steadily gathering an impressive collection of resources as I  researched and answered my own timeshare questions. Then, one evening in 1997, I and my wife Mary Lou had dinner with seven other couples who also owned timeshares.

I chuckle, remembering. They were all wondering - what have we gotten ourselves into? And they turned to me and said - “Ed, you be the leader.”

It was a role that came naturally to me: a former mediator/negotiator, now sitting on the board of many local nonprofits and civic organizations, including Kernan Orthopaedic Hospital, local Chamber of Commerce and the Lions Club International.  I accepted my friends’ informal vote, and the Maryland Timeshare Owners Association was born.

Within a short time, I  was the recognized guru, receiving calls from timeshare owners around the country - and even from Canada. The editor of Timesharing Today ran a poll to find out the reason, and learned that while there were plenty of other timesharing organizations, only one offered any solid educational, networking, or support services.

The National Timeshare Owners Association was born out of that need in 2008, and I am still the guru in residence today. Together with Mary Lou, I run the organization, responding personally to members’ questions, and making frequent trips around the country to speak at timeshare owners’ meetings. I am  passionate about my mission to educate and create networking opportunities for timeshare owners, saying with a characteristic smile, “I always say,“Informed Owners = Happy Owners!”
